European Best Practice Award for Coastal Towns

President of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Jean-Claude Mignon and President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities Keith Whitmore announced today the results of the Best Practice Award Programme for European Coastal Towns, at a ceremony during the Parliamentary Assembly session in Strasbourg.

The initiative to reward best local practices for the regeneration of coastal towns was launched by the Council of Europe in January 2012, in the framework of the Chairmanship by the United Kingdom of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers.

Vikelaia Library is more than just a place for reading or displaying books. It is a cultural institution that organises and supports scientific and artistic activities, conducts research and promotes local history by utilizing historical archives.

Vikelea Library has been built up over many years, through the hard work and generosity of many people. We believe it is a fitting tribute to its original benefactor, Dimitrios Vikelas, and will continue to grow and provide a valuable resource to historians, students and the general public for years to come.

We hope the activities of Vikelaia will attract the attention of people and will bring them closer to the world of learning and books.

Fiber Optics Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)

The Greek Ombudsman

The Greek Ombudsman is a constitutionally sanctioned Independent Authority. It was founded in October 1998 and operates under the provisions of Law 3094/2003. The Ombudsman provides its services to the public free of charge, and received more than 41.865 complaints during its five first years of operation (from 1 October 1998 to 31 December 2002).
